White Sancerre is justly famous, winning fans with its stony, racy, Sauvignon Blanc self. Red Sancerre is not as well known, though many wine insiders appreciate the more feminine side of Pinot Noir made here, showing deft balance between fruit and structure, ripeness and acidity. Pink Sancerre is more obscure yet, and that is a shame, because when made as it is by the father and son team of Lucien and Gilles Crochet, it manages what so little rosés can: subtlety. This pink is consistently one of our summertime favorites. Made entirely from Pinot Noir, the Crochet Sancerre Rosé is a pale salmon color, with strawberry and cherry fruit notes and savory herb accents. Balanced, fresh and delicious. Drink it with garlicky shrimp or a peppery arugula salad.
