How to pick a wine in a restaurant - advice from our in-house sommelier

Some find ordering wine in a restaurant to be a daunting task, with the extensive wine list presenting a challenge. Navigating through the choices can become overwhelming. However, here are a few tips on how to order wine in a restaurant and appear like a pro while doing it!

1. Color: First, decide on the type of wine you'd like to enjoy. Will you start with a sparkling or light white for the beginning of the meal and progress to more intense choices as you dine? If you're new to wine, consider starting with light whites like Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, or slightly sweeter options like Moscato d’Asti.

2. Trust Your Environment: When it comes to food and wine pairing, remember the saying, "What grows together, goes together." If you're dining at an Italian restaurant, opt for an Italian wine. Essentially, pair your cuisine with a wine that complements it.

3. BTG (By The Glass): BTG stands for 'By The Glass'! This is an excellent option if you and your friends have different wine preferences, allowing each of you to order a wine that suits your taste. It's also a great choice if you've ordered a variety of dishes, as one style of wine doesn't pair well with everything. This gives you the opportunity to explore different varieties and styles.

4.Somm’s (Sommeliers): Don't be hesitant; talk to the Sommelier of the restaurant! But before you invite them to your table, ask yourself a few questions:
- What color do you prefer - white, rosé, or red?
- What style are you in the mood for - light and crisp, juicy and aromatic, or rich and dense?

By considering these factors, you'll feel more confident when discussing your preferences with the Sommelier, making you appear like a true wine connoisseur! Give these tips a try, and you'll order wine like a boss!
